| Advanced Integration Strategies: From DICOM and HL7 to IHE and SOA |
| |
| This session will re-familiarize you with the well-known DICOM standard and highlight new directions in its development. Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) and Semantic Web will be introduced and their application to advanced integration will be discussed. The harmonious use of these standards and technologies by the IHE initiative in a broad range of arenas will be described. |

Faculty:
Paul J. Chang, MD, FSIIM; University of Chicago, Pritzker School of Medicine
David S. Channin, MD; Northwestern University, Feinberg School of Medicine
Charles E. Kahn, Jr., MD, MS; Medical College of Wisconsin |
| |
Objectives:
1. Review DICOM basics and future directions for DICOM development.
2. Compare and contrast how DICOM is used in non-radiology and non-imaging applications.
3. Analyze how Service Oriented Architecture and web services can be used to achieve interoperability.
4. Describe how semantics and the semantic web are important and their application to imaging informatics.
5. Review IHE basics and identify future directions for IHE development.
6. Describe how IHE uses DICOM, edge standards and web services to advance interoperability. |
