SIIM has established the Samuel J. Dwyer, III, PhD, FSIIM Memorial Lecture. The SIIM Annual Meeting lecture series will feature distinguished speakers in Dr. Dwyer's areas of expertise and interest.
This first lecture named in Dr. Dwyer’s honor is intended to acquaint those of you who never had the good fortune of meeting him in person with the history and accomplishments of his career.
The first part of the lecture will focus on Dr. Dwyer’s interest in standards for the format and information content of digital medical images. The second speaker will elaborate on the original Dwyer storage model, its impact on PACS hardware and software, and how the evolution of storage has affected the way PACS storage is implemented.
The final section will describe early contributions to the field of digital medical imaging and the process of developing a comprehensive SIIM bibliography and repository on the history of imaging informatics.
