Challenges and Turf Battles

Hear the similarities and differences in workflow between pathology/laboratory medicine and radiology, focusing on what those differences in workflow mean for developing electronic medical records and charts. In addition, attendees will look at how those images in “other ’ologies” will get into a PACS, or will they? The session also will address the conundrums and challenges of non-radiological imaging.

Faculty:
Paul J. Chang, MD, FSIIM; University of Chicago, Pritzker School of Medicine

Benoit Desjardins, MD, PhD; University of Michigan Medical Center

Steven C. Horii, MD, FSIIM; University of Pennsylvania Health System

Objectives:

1. Compare and contrast the similarities and differences in workflow between pathology/laboratory medicine and radiology.

2. Analyze how other “ologies” get images into a PACS.

3. Describe how the standards groups are addressing the problems of non-radiological imaging.
